A Medical Clinical Affairs White Paper | June 2019
Authors: Michael Ajuria MD, Joe Pulliam MD, Graham Abra MD
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a simple form of renal replacement therapy that can be performed at home on a flexible schedule with equivalent, and in some cases superior clinical outcomes to in-center hemodialysis. Despite this, PD is used far less frequently in the United States than in many other countries.
Beginning PD with an incremental approach, is an excellent opportunity to introduce patients to a less burdensome prescription while addressing fears and misconceptions about dialysis at home.
Our June 2019 White Paper reviews potential risks and benefits of this approach and provides an overview of available literature. We hope this succinct review helps to inform the care of your patients.
