SAN JOSE, Calif. – (June 8, 2021) – Satellite Healthcare announced today that Jay Agarwal, MD will serve as the Chief Medical Officer of its division that is focused on expanding and integrating the company’s value-based care model, with a particular emphasis on serving the needs of individuals with stage four and five chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Through this newly created role, Dr. Agarwal will lead Satellite Healthcare’s effort to promote value-based care by improving patient outcomes and reducing unnecessary costs, through holistic and innovative approaches to patient health and wellness before they experience loss of kidney function.  This will involve collaborating with providers, payors and other risk-bearing organizations.

Dr. Agarwal will be a member of the organization’s senior management and will report to Satellite Healthcare chief executive officer Jeff Goffman.

“Bringing to CKD patients Satellite Healthcare’s novel approach to care, earlier in their disease progression, can slow the onset of end stage renal disease and improve their quality of life,” said Dr. Agarwal. “Value-based care is a model that benefits patients and every participant in the management of their overall health, and I’m excited to contribute to an organization that so effectively innovates and delivers best-in-class kidney care.”

“Satellite Healthcare ranks among the top dialysis providers in each of the markets in which we serve patients, and Dr. Agarwal will play a significant role in ensuring that we continue to deliver on our mandate to provide quality care at the best value possible through the services we offer,” said Goffman. “His vision of significantly boosting the health outcomes of kidney patients while promoting efficient care in collaboration with our nephrology practices and payors perfectly complements our mission.”

Satellite Healthcare’s new value-based care division will be fueled by staff and innovations that have contributed to the company’s status as having the country’s highest percentage of patients receiving home dialysis and attaining top star ratings through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“Our data analytic capabilities, care management expertise, and compassionate, dedicated staff and caregivers combine to create an environment in which our patients thrive,” said Bernadette Vincent, Satellite Healthcare president and chief operating officer. “Bringing on Dr. Agarwal to head our value-based care division will enable us to sustain our leadership role within health care’s rapidly evolving structure and environment.”

Most recently, Dr. Agarwal served as regional medical director for UnitedHealth Group, overseeing quality improvement, clinical and financial outcomes for its end stage renal disease and chronic kidney disease program. His prior roles included chief executive officer of Nephrology Associates Medical Group and various leadership positions with DaVita.  He attained his MBA from the University of Michigan and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine.
