As you enter a Satellite Healthcare dialysis center, you’re warmly greeted by staff who are here to help you have a high-quality, safe, and comfortable hemodialysis treatment.
Before you begin treatment, the staff confirms a set schedule with you to make sure you get the amount of dialysis your kidney doctor prescribes. Most people have center hemodialysis treatments for 3 to 4 hours, 3 times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays or Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays).
Treatment is given in a patient care area. Centers usually care for 24 to 36 people at a time and have 3 to 4 shifts per day. Your care team begins your treatment and then checks on you to make sure everything is going well and that you’re as comfortable as possible.
After your treatment, you may rest in the dialysis chair for a few minutes until you’re ready to go home. It’s common for people to feel tired after treatment; most feel better after a few hours.
Your blood is cleaned by sending it through an artificial kidney.
A little at a time, blood flows out of the body into the dialysis machine. Waste and extra fluid are removed from your blood. The cleaned blood is returned to your body.Take a minute to see how hemodialysis works to clean your blood.
People with COVID-19 who don’t need hospitalization receive the same individualized, compassionate care, with added precautions to prevent the spread of infection. Treatment may be received in a separate room at your regular center. Sometimes, treatment may be temporarily rescheduled to a time or location where you can get the care you need from a specially trained team. No matter what, Satellite is here to make sure you get the dialysis you need to be as healthy as possible.
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays OR Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for 3-4 hours between 5:00 AM and 5:00 PM. However, some Satellite Healthcare locations offer additional options that may fit your lifestyle better.
Centers with nighttime hours offer treatments in the evenings or overnight. This is a good option for people who have daytime jobs, go to school, or have other things they must do during the day. These treatments also tend to be longer and can be gentler on your body.
This four-week program offers more frequent treatment and in-depth dialysis education to jump-start a healthy dialysis lifestyle. It includes opportunities to learn about all dialysis treatment options up close so you have the information you need to live your best life possible.
