Background:

This article summarizes the evidence for a Kt/V target of 1.7 for PD, reviews current CMS policies that require Kt/V targets, and suggest a practical path that CMS can take to guide the United States toward increased adoption of high-quality, goal-directed PD per international standards for dialysis adequacy.
